Structure of PTE

The PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic exam consists of three main sections: Speaking and Writing, Reading, and Listening. The exam is computer-based and assesses your English language proficiency in an integrated and comprehensive manner. Here is a breakdown of the structure of the PTE Academic exam: The PTE exam is two hour time duration.

1. Speaking and Writing (54-67 minutes):

  • Personal Introduction: You will be asked to introduce yourself in response to a given prompt.
  • Read Aloud: You will read a short text aloud.
  • Repeat Sentence: You will listen to a sentence and then repeat it.
  • Describe Image: You will describe an image shown on the screen.
  • Re-tell Lecture: You will listen to a lecture and then retell the main points in your own words.
  • Answer Short Questions: You will answer questions based on brief audio or text prompts.
  • Summarize Written Text: You will read a passage and then summarize it in a single sentence.
  • Essay: You will write an essay based on a given topic.

2. Reading (29-41 minutes):

  • Multiple-Choice, Choose Single Answer: You will read a passage and select the correct answer from multiple options.
  • Multiple-Choice, Choose Multiple Answers: You will read a passage and select multiple correct answers from the given options.
  • Re-order Paragraphs: You will be provided with jumbled paragraphs and need to arrange them in the correct order.
  • Reading: Fill in the Blanks: You will read a passage with missing words and need to select the correct words to complete it.
  • Reading and Writing: Fill in the Blanks: You will read a passage with missing words and need to type the correct words in the blanks.

3. Listening (30-43 minutes):

  • Summarize Spoken Text: You will listen to an audio recording and summarize it in a written response.
  • Multiple-Choice, Choose Multiple Answers: You will listen to an audio recording and select multiple correct answers from given options.
  • Fill in the Blanks: You will listen to an audio recording with missing words and need to type the correct words in the blanks.
  • Highlight Correct Summary: You will listen to an audio recording and select the summary that best captures the main points.
  • Multiple-Choice, Choose Single Answer: You will listen to an audio recording and select the correct answer from multiple options.
  • Select Missing Word: You will listen to an audio recording and choose the correct missing word from a list of options.
  • Highlight Incorrect Words: You will listen to an audio recording and identify the words that are different from the transcript.

How to Book the PTE Exam

Booking the PTE exam in Sri Lanka is a straightforward process. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you book your PTE exam

1. Visit the official Pearson PTE website: Go to the Pearson PTE official website (https://pearsonpte.com/) and select your country as Sri Lanka from the dropdown menu or use the search feature to find the Sri Lankan test centers.

2. Create an account: If you don’t already have an account, create one on the Pearson PTE website. Provide the required information, including your personal details and contact information

3.Select a test center: Choose the test center in Sri Lanka where you want to take the PTE exam. You can view available test dates and time slots at each center.

4. Choose an exam date and time: Select a convenient date and time for your PTE exam. It is recommended to choose a date well in advance to secure your preferred slot.

5. Review and confirm: Review your selected test center, date, and time to ensure accuracy. Make sure to double-check all the information before proceeding.

6. Make the payment: Pay the exam fee using the available payment options provided on the website. Pearson PTE accepts various payment methods, including credit/debit cards or online banking.

7. Receive confirmation: After successful payment, you will receive a confirmation email with your booking details, including your test center address, exam date, and reporting time. Keep this email safe as you will need it for reference.

8. Prepare for the exam: Start preparing for the PTE exam by accessing official PTE study materials, practice tests, and resources available on the Pearson PTE website. Familiarize yourself with the test format, question types, and time management strategies.
